Those votes had consequences.
Now that the same cruelty, dishonesty, and reckless leadership are starting to affect their own wallets, their own healthcare, and their own families, the call suddenly becomes lets come together. But accountability matters. Political choices matter. You cant spend years supporting policies that harm others and then ask for immediate forgiveness when the damage circles back.
This conversation is about responsibility. Democracy only works when voters own the outcomes of the leaders and policies they support. If the country is going to move forward, it starts with honesty about the choices that got us here.

I would add that there's no common ground until we address both economic inequality and social equality. Nothing about homosexuality. Nothing about abuse towards transgendered folks. The racism/bigotry of MAGA voters is where we really have a deep recess. I'm having a very difficult time "finding common ground" with folks who want to build concentration camps. It has started with "illegal aliens". What happens when they decide all people who aren't white republican male straight Christians are "alien" to them?
It needs to stop and MAGA needs to be gone. Their leaders need to be impeached and tried, where applicable, for their war crimes. Then we can have a conversation about common ground and whether we can do another 250 years of this "experiment".
Arrest them all until trial. I have lgbtq children and they dont go to club anymore because they are scared of getting shot. FUCK THEM ALL
my daughter is gay. I'm not into the "oh let bygones be bygones" after what they've done.

(303 posts)this is 150% true - unless the MAGA leaders in Dump's administration are actually held accountable for their wrongdoing. When we take back control, I do NOT want to hear about "looking forward" or "healing the country" or "reaching out to the other side" unless and until folks are held to account for their wrongdoing. If the rank and file MAGA voter sees and understands that there are actually consequences to being a treasonous grifter who only represents, at most, a third of this country, then they might think twice about associating with the movement.

(9,880 posts)I haven't seen that so far. Dems just seem to go back to business as usual, and that won't play anymore with me. This whole mess has proven that there are multiple systems that are TOTALLY broken, and we need fighters who will actually fight to fix the problems.
It's time that all elected Democrats WOKE up!

(41,329 posts)As Democratic Party regulars, our problem was that we lost the independent and once-in-a-while voters who SHOULD HAVE SEEN all this, but instead they closed their eyes and voted for Chump.
And don't get me started on the huge number of Americans who didn't care enough to vote, and never gave it a 2nd thought. If we can get them to show up at the polls and vote D, it won't matter what the MAGAs are crying about.

(4,907 posts)As long as they know all of this was known and predicted by millions of us who were warning them. They dismissed our warnings, and often mocked us. So, as long as they can take a long look within to learn why they believed it and to then exorcise those grievances and beliefs, and going forward change their behavior, I am open to them.
A simple ask, but difficult for most. More likely they will simply look for the next guy offering the same thing and convince themselves this time will be different.

How many people have been killed since (and including) the Jan. 6th insurrection? Venezuela, Iran, Salvadorean prisons, the streets of Minneapolis with ICE literally shooting citizens?
Yes, we can have some ground rules and move forward after MAGA is removed, but "let bygones be bygones" is really not the stage we're at here.
It's not just a football game or something ...

(11,029 posts)Even with the voting against their own interests, these people were the scum of the earth when the time came in the past for 'coming together'. I know that even some here saw the vitriol and hate these people were spewing against the entire Democratic establishment.
And, now you want us to pretend that you were just 'being conservative' when you voted for a felon who instigated an insurrection and got away with it, a criminal who has been in court rooms his entire life, a sleezeball landlord who discriminated whenever it suited him and then tried to lie about it. You want us to just pretend all of this was just a 'political disagreement'?
How about 'NO'? Does 'NO' work for you? Because it works great for me.

(20,475 posts)is the ground in which we'll be buried. Even then, I'd prefer to be buried with fellow human beings, not hateful, misogynistic, racist, criminal, pedophiles, if that's possible.
I was never, nor am I now, perfect, but I believe everyone has a right to human dignity, decency, and respect. None of those things are within the MAGA lexicon, so even in death I don't wish to be associated with them.
I'll have to find a "No MAGAs allowed" cemetery, I guess.

(255 posts)I'm so tired of conservatives droning on about personal responsibility for others but not for themselves. MAGA folks voted for this insanity. Liberals and conservatives need to suppress their instinct to comfort and help the afflicted. Conservatives need to learn some hard lessons.
I'm reserving my empathy and support for the people MAGA targeted.
