A home near me burned down last summer. I've been watching the construction as they rebuild it and about 75% of the work has been done by immigrants.

Well, there's so many things wrong with that statement I hardly know where to begin---
but just because someone can't afford or get financed for a $400 to $500k priced house,
which is now the "median" house price in the United States,
doesn't mean that they "didn't work very hard"---

however, it may well mean that they worked very hard for unfairly low wages,
because their boss is a Republican who doesn't believe in living wages,
or maybe doesn't even believe in "minimum" wages---
and those same Republican bosses have often been guilty of
hiring the very undocumented immigrants which they otherwise complain about,
so they could have the benefit of their labor while paying them poverty wages!
(which tends to drive down wages for everyone else!)
