James Talarico on Texas school history getting white-washed:

@jamestalarico.bsky.social criticized a new Senate bill for "historical whitewashing," highlighting its removal of significant figures & events from educational content.
His #CupOfJoe reminds us that a well-informed electorate is a prerequisite to Democracy. [Thomas Jefferson]

I saw a piece on him the other day and he seems cool. I like Rep Crockett as a person. She definitely hits back.

But I saw this as well and he gets it:
https://ca.news.yahoo.com/james-talarico-says-biggest-welfare-120500861.html

I am not getting into the Talarico vs Crockett thing. I am not even American and not a MAGA bot so I keep pointing out that I am not.

He is absolutely right about those robber barons being the welfare queens.

And it is an outrage to force their worthless products which no one with a brain would consider anything but a criminal nuisance. Keep your shit tech products away from me you criminals.

America has definitely hit my wallet hard via the privatization of education. I was an international student and this sleazy EECS dept which has many Google types pocketed my money-didn’t bother with minimum guidance.

Totally different story with the publicly funded scientists in the natural sciences. The types of people imperiled these days by the same oligarchs.

And since I don’t file for compensation like Ellen Pao (I would not have gone and worked for Kleiner Perkins in the first place. I was working in publicly funded science far from the EECS dept that robbed me. So I wasn’t expecting a depraved robbery), I can at least attack these robber barons on an American site I trust.

The privatization of education is robbery when you don’t even offer much of an education but pocket the money as EECS did. I like this new breed of populist, explicitly non racist democrat like Talarico.

I don’t see how that’s not the future. My mom said before she died that American corporations definitely hit our wallets hard and the emotional toll was far worse. Never forget is my motto.
