Targeting Kelly is one of those this is why well win moments, bc it shows how politically impetuous this admin is.
Theres clearly no adult in the room to say wait, maybe dont go after the charismatic war hero turned literal astronaut who ran after his wife was a victim of political violence.

Mark Kelly: "My wife, Gabby Giffords, meeting with her constituents, shot in the head. Six people killed around her, a horrific thing. She spent six months in the hospital. We know what political violence is and we know what causes it too, The statements that Donald Trump made incites others."

(291,472 posts)This plus the fact that every one of the persons said illegal acts - going after Kelly is ignorance on steroids.

(3,192 posts)remember lt col north in uniform of the day, saluting?
this is better than that. recalled to duty, kelly will be in uniform. and unlike north, kelly has nothing to hide.

(31,467 posts)at a "congress on your corner event" months before she was shot and so many people around her were killed.
The then MAGAts were bused in ( literal greyhound buses arrives dumping out TEA party people, some armed, into the Safeway where the meeting was held). Because the line was long to meet the congresswoman, they provided a line of chairs... and we all had to get up a move to the next chair in the line every time she finished hearing from the next person at the front. I mention this because during one of these "musical chair" movements the guy next to me stood up and a handgun fell out of his pants pocket and hit the floor of the Safeway store. Fortunately it did not go off... but seriously. front pocket? I was worried for them then...
Next week someone threw rocks or bricks through the congress woman's Tucson office window.
This is to say, the violence has almost entirely come from the right. It is still coming from the right. It was coming long before Trump rode the escalator down to start the anti-immigrant bullshit.
Also, in that same line... while the TEA party assholes had signs even then saying "deport all Mexicans" ( this even was in Douglas AZ, literally a stones throw from the border )... I had a Mexican American farmer sitting to the other side of me from the gun nut. He told me "my family has been ranching here for 5 generations... we didn't choose to be either Mexican or American... they kept moving the border on US."
Anyway I sent some money to Mark yesterday for whatever legal defense costs he may face from Trump's DOJ.

(31,467 posts)whatever the case I chipped in some money. If they seriously go after any of the Democrats that simply stated the law, I will donate to them as well. My father fought and survived in WW2 ( fire control officer on a destroyer, convoy duty, landing support for Anzio, etc ). My brother was a Lt JG in the Navy when he died. I was to go to Annapolis ( named by Senator Bob Dole ) because I wanted to command a submarine eventually. My mother put a stop to that after my brother died.
Anyway, We should all support these ex-military officers from the attacks by Kegsbreath. The strikes on unarmed vessels in international waters that threatened no one, have not been proven to be "drug boats", without a trial, without evidence... are illegal under any code of justice. The crew and officers that carry out these strikes will eventually face life in prison for doing what they have done "following orders".

preaching to a principaled man with a distinguished military career. It should be Senator Kelly investigating that POS. Dereliction of duty comes to mind. I believe a civilian who is in the military can be charged with this, or something similar.
