My wife is suggesting that we arm ourselves. She has always been against having any firearm in the house. Now she is changing her mind on that.

Good luck!

(25,622 posts)My husband insisted on being armed, but it's hidden and has safety lock on. Lately, I have begun to think that I might need a gun as well. I'm in my 70's and this is the first time I've ever had that thought. if i get one, I'll definitely do the training.

(333 posts)I'm not being sarcastic or obtuse. Were you thinking about ICE; active shooters; civil war; violent right wingers near you, your home or your family; crime and break-ins?
I'm perplexed because I'm guessing your gun would be of moderate capacity particularly if you are older (I don't know guns and have never touched one, but imagine higher capacity firearms are an armful to operate). What would that do against armed ICE agents or armed right-wingers who probably have the highest capacity firearms they can obtain. If crime is a concern, would a gun in locked safe be accessible quickly enough to repel armed criminals? I'm asking in earnest because I personally think more arms escalate several of the scenarios I presented. Please help me understand/educate me. THANKS!
