Im going to be looking for a Democrat in the next presidential primaries who will enthusiastically use all the new power

Trump has discovered. Bold sweeping holy shit stuff everyday...but for good this time.

Anything less is unsatisfying and ammounts to unilateral disarmament.

The SC will be hearing emergency arguments at 2am on a Saturday, because separation of powers of democrats, congress will no longer be allowed to pass things like, yaknow, LAWS, and the article 2 powers will OBVIOUSLY belong to the courts (that they agree with).

What has to be totally destroyed by the next elected Government, in its totality, is the idea that Democratic everything is just totally un-American and therfore, legally illegitimate.

THATS the game the right wing and their echo chambers have been playing for half a century.

There are 13 judicial districts in the U.S.

I still think we should expand the Supreme Court to 13, one justice per district. It’s not just a “sweeping” change. It’s a LONG OVERDUE change.

... I'd appoint even more jurists, backup jurists if you will. And each case be decided by a panel of 9 judges. Judges chosen by random. Mandatory retirement ages, mandatory maximum service length. Judges chosen by a bi-partisan panel and the president picks from this shortlist.

Yeah, Supreme Court reform is long overdue IMO too.

We need to reverse the power of an executive because it is far to easy to abuse. And it just leads to an increasing cycle of just trying to go bigger. And doing everything via executive order makes things whipsaw between administrations rather than having stickiness of law.

2. Then reform the system so it won't happen again.

The most important thing is to elect a Democratic Congress which will install guardrails around the presidency in order to prevent any further criminal administrations. We need a Congress that sends the President bills to sign that work for We the People.

I want a President that campaigns on bulldozing the TrumpEpstein Ballocks Room and rebuilding the East Wing. If there is an arch that goes too.

That means standing up to them and the ghouls on the Red Court when they try to take people’s right to vote away, their right to marry and their right to not starve, or die from sickness unnecessarily, in the wealthiest country in the world. Stand up and forcefully rebuke their shit.

One for each of the 13 federal circuit courts. We had only 9 circuit courts when SCOTUS was increased to 9 in 1869. It used to be only 6 SCOTUS seats when we had 6 circuit courts, up until 1807.

This can all be done by a simple passage of legislation by Congress. Then fill the seats with liberals.

Then they can overturn Citizen's United, Heller, and Dodd, and all the opinions eviscerating the Voting Rights Act. Just like how major precedents were overturned by the Roberts Court, including Roe v. Wade (constitutional right to abortion), Austin v. Michigan Chamber of Commerce and parts of McConnell v. FEC (campaign finance limits), Chevron U.S.A. v. Natural Resources Defense Council (Chevron deference), and Regents of the University of California v. Bakke (affirmative action in higher education).

Time for what goes around to come around!

The last liberal majority on the Supreme Court ended on May 14, 1969, when Justice Abe Fortas resigned, which was followed shortly by the retirement of Chief Justice Earl Warren. The court then became predominantly conservative due to subsequent appointments by Republican presidents. And McConnell made it a conservative supermajority by essentially stealing two seats for Trump to fill (refusing a vote on Garland because it was 9 months before the 2016 election, then ramming through Amy Coney Barrett 2 weeks before the 2020 election, even though Trump was down in the polls).

I actually have things I'm looking FOR in a democratic nominee. And being willing to use all the power that SCOTUS gave to trump, in essence, to the OFFICE of the Prez, for all the good it can do.

One other thing I'm looking at very seriously, which is going to be harder to find is one not sullied by the new corporate democratic pose.

I'm afraid the country is in for many long, arduous missteps before it finally finds its true footing. I say that because, from the very start of our founding, the ideals were great, but discrimination was built in. It'll be up to these new generations now to undo the mistakes of their ancestors and push the ideal that is America into existence. Unfortunately, I doubt seriously I'll be around to see it... or, even if I am still breathing my brain will probably be mush by then. But it still doesn't stop me from hoping with all my might that discrimination against Mother Earth, the animals we share this earth with, and women and POC can be overcome by a more enlightened generation.

With parts of that mob installed in key places, notably the courts.

The nominal "new powers" such as presidential "immunity" don't mean much without the courts and the media on your side.

Any democratic president who so much as jaywalks will quickly find the president isn't really immune.

The real power lies in his being able to commit crimes in broad daylight and have the media yawn.
