General Discussion

This resonates with me, hard, because my wife is a naturalized citizen, a dual citizen.
She got her US citizenship under Biden, but now she lives in fear every day. She's afraid to even leave the house by herself.
(And YES! I'm concerned about EVERYONE affected by Mango Mussolini! I'm just highlighting the effect it's had on me & my family.)
If you're not a naturalized citizen or emotionally close to one it may be difficult to understand. The thing is, the Trump ICE/Gestapo are grabbing people & taking them into custody for the most minor, or even nonexistent (made-up), things.
The whole situation makes my heart ache & bleed. I never thought I would live to see the day when I was at war with my own government... but here we are.
Thanks for listening, my DU friends.
Y'all should know I don't make lengthy personal posts like this very often because my business keeps me so busy I just don't have time, but I've put all my customers on hold for a couple weeks so I can do things for myself. And this issue... this issue is weighing heavily on me because I love my wife immensely & she's living in fear of the Trump Regime every day.
Again, thank all of you for reading.

(26,331 posts)ALL of us have a stake in fighting this regime/reign of terror/error. We hang together, or, most assuredly, we will hang separately. (Ben Franklin) I sympathize with your plight, and your wife's fears; sadly, all I can do to alleviate them is to lend my voice to the fight, which I do wholeheartedly. It is truly existential in every sense. We lose it at our peril. I believe I would join you in giving my life to oppose what our country has become under this monster's rule. It is too important not to.

It affects ALL of us & everyone we love, one way or another.

(35,698 posts)My husband got his in November 2020 - dual citizen too.
The anxiety is insane. Right here in American you have American citizens who are TERRIFIED of the government for their NEW American Citizen family members.
If I seem cold or cruel on certain issues - it's because I wake up daily thinking that they will seize my husband and disappear him. It's only a matter of time.
I've begged to no avail - Go to Italy and take Ruckus with you and will sort everything and join you. He refuses. I simply don't know what to do.

(45 posts)I second those who are urging you to go to Italy. That country does have its problems, of course, but Italians are not facing anywhere near the problems that naturalized citizens in the U.S. are now facing. I lived in Sicily for 11 years and would go back at the drop of a hat if possible. No need to go into details, but I repeat that your best course of action is, imho, go to Europe. If for no other reason than healthcare!

We have a house there. Take himself and our Maltese and go.
Another layer - I'm an elected in a blue dot in a red county in NJ.
I was getting threats when I was just on the Democratic Committee and we ousted Leonard Lance.
Now? I think its America's dirty little secret that every elected Democrat from the dog catcher up to Chuck Schumer is getting death threats in this environment.
After the Assassination and attempted assassination in Minnesota that involved the SPOUSES of the Representatives?
He needs to go. I'll finish out my term sell our house and join them later. We have a beautiful home there - we don't HAVE to stay here.

Goddam it, we already have secret police and concentration camps.
IT MUST STOP NOW
Every day of acquiescence makes an end to fascism more costly in lost freedom and LIVES.

This is a nightmare for so many while laws are being broken and thrown away. What can we do?

Your wife is probably right about not leaving the house too and that's really sad. I don't think it's paranoid if they are out to get you (as the saying goes).
