So I live in Albuquerque in a somewhat upscale neighborhood

But we aren’t wealthy just stretched the income years ago to live in the Sandia Mountain foothills.

We need repairs. We will sell the house in ten years in our mid 70s.

On my walk today saw lovely work being done on a stuccoed wall nearby. Asked the two gentleman to come over and talk to me I need repairs on a gate if not replacement.

But it was a different conversation than it would have been a few years ago. You could sense a bit of fear with us acting more reassuring than we would have had to before. And there is no doubt in my mind they will do great work.

They did come over. One? No English. Other telling us credentials. Not overselling me. They only work on weekends. Fine with us. First names only.

I guess my point? My life is NM. Grew up in SW NM. Originally from Texas.

Living working supporting school (kids we raise them as culturally diverse with our Native American and Hispanic cultures) all of it is part of our DNA. We I think will not be an easy target for ICE. NM is a blue state and we are a so called sanctuary city.

I just don’t think it will go well here the raids and so on and I worry about my kids friends in law enforcement. They shouldn’t be in this position of supporting this regime.

A number of young teens present as well.

My first thought: will the ICE gestapo suddenly appear with masks and assault rifles?
Will they hurt the children and kidnap them too?

They start kidnapping and hurting the children, I was planning on jumping out of the car, grabbing
some of the kids and taking off.

My son dated someone from South America for several years here on a “green card”. Hardest worker I have known. Holding down a few jobs at a time (cleaning or waitressing) to lend support to her mother and brother sharing apartments and so on.

Scary. Our story here in NM is only one of many.

We go to restaurants, fast food, stores, etc with immigrant labor.

My aunt's nursing home is full of immigrant nursing aides.

Masked men with assault rifles will scare the hell out of her, maybe give her a heart attack.

a US citizen since the late 60’s- raised in Philadelphia I am 6th generation Philadelphian- related to two of the founding fathers- But, I have a Latin name. 😂
I don’t plan to travel out of the country anytime soon
just because of my name!

My 28 year old son will be returning to the US on Tuesday, after having been abroad since February- in Japan, South Korea & China. He will enter with a burner phone. 🤞

I live in Santa Fe, and have worked with Mexicans for years. We built our house ourselves with a Mexican crew.... they have the very best work ethic.
Now I'm looking for people to help me with various things, and have had several recommendations for good people, All Mexicans, and that's fine because I speak Spanish.
But I'm finding that some of these people are gone, phones turned off , no way to contact them. The people that recommended them say they don't know , they were just here., and they did excellent.work. But now they're gone..
I am hoping and praying that they left on their own, and were not taken. But it makes me heart sick that they feel they have to go .
Just this morning, I read about an Ice raid at a Walmart in Rio Rancho, NM.
They are coming.

They are all so wonderful and we get along great!

I do not want them hurt or gone.

This is Texas. Right now the CBP is focusing on Dallas,
but I expect they'll target the whole state eventually.

Otero County and I know our law enforcement would go along with ICE.
We will do our best to thwart ICE but I fear for my neighbors.

Right out of 'The Despot's Handbook'. A cowed populace is easier to control.

and htat means the APD takes no part in this ICE bullshit, so you can breathe a sigh of qualified relief for friends in the department.

It looked like the anti ICE, anti nutjob administration protests today were calm.

I love NM, it has been a good fit, an island of sanity in a bonkers part of the country--except CO is nowhere near as nuts as it was 30 years ago. Maybe legal cannabis has something to do with it.

(I live on the edge of the War Zone. I lived in Four Hills, hated the commute to the hospitals, so I bought a little house in a very diverse area that was closer. My neighbors were great so I stayed until blindness drove me into an independent living center 6 blocks from my old house_)

My best friend and I go out to dinner every Tuesday at one of two Mexican restaurants. I am scared for the people at both of them. One just changed hands; the guy bought it a couple of months ago and is still waiting on his liquor license. He and his wife and extended family basically do all the work and the food is really good. When the weather is nice we like to go there and eat on the patio. The other has been there for quite awhile and they all know us. The food is also really good. We've been alternating recently. ICE hasn't come around so far *fingers crossed* and I'm hoping if they do the reaction will be something like the one in my hometown when they came to a meatpacking plant there---solid resistance. The nearest city (Harrisonburg) is blue and is, so I'm told, a sanctuary city.
