ICE just cuffed & tackled NYC Comptroller @bradlander
for asking them to prove they had a warrant to make an arrest.
The Trump Admin is going after elected officials in broad daylight. Imagine what they'd do to you when cameras aren't around.

(6,141 posts)for years, we were told to "vote," that was our biggest voice and action we could take. Millions of us didn't need those words... we'd had them ingrained in us by our WWII vet parents, by grandparents and parents who lived through the Great Depression. We voted like there was no tomorrow (because the DNC kept telling us there wouldn't be one!).
And then, even knowing... or at least having an inkling... of all or some of the cheating that was going on regarding electoral laws and politics, the PTB just kept telling us to get out the vote. And when it didn't go our way, many of us felt they were laying it our feet for not trying hard enough. When from the highest to the lowest of the in Power, failed us. Merrick Garland failed us the worst, IMO. But Biden also bears some of the guilt. Although he made it a point to assuage us with a committee for judicial reforms, he blew recommendations off and disbanded the committee without doing anything. I loved me some Dark Brandon... he just didn't come out often enough.
What could we... common, ordinary people... do beyond voting, writing letters... it's all what I call "passive" stuff. But unless you're going to go full Tibetan monk and set yourself ablaze in front of the WH, what CAN you do? I hear the frustration in your voice, because I hear it in my every day and every night. WHAT can I do that will make an impact on a large enough number of people that it will change their minds, hearts, and attitudes? I keep coming up with nothing. And boy, is it frustrating!

(18,601 posts)If you squirm when your arm is being bent in ways an arm isn't built to go -- your "resisting". If you try to wipe the pepper spray from your eyes with the hand that's being restrained by an officer -- you're "resisting". If you try to breathe while deputy dawg and two of his deputies are sitting on your chest -- you're "resisting".
Once those magic words -- "stop resisting" -- are spoken, they apparently have carte blanche to do do whatever the hell they want.
I fear it'll take a couple of legitimate ICE agents getting shot before Noem and her buddies get the message.

A demonstration broke out outside 26 Federal Plaza on Tuesday afternoon, with a crowd of supporters shouting free Brad Lander.
Protesters held up placards saying fascist minion and immigrants are New York while surrounded by a tight cordon of police and metal barricades. Public entry to the building was closed despite it being a public building.

Is that a serious question?

(2,352 posts)Look, its time that Dem officials got their own, actually MEANINGFUL version of the GOP-required wearing the idiotic flag lapel pin, or their old fad of having to take Grover Nordquists anti-tax pledge to have a chance at support. In every city with an immigration court, our Dem officials need to be signing up to go challenge a raid every day. Make getting cuffed and assaulted a badge of honor, in protection of the constitution and due process. If they wont put themselves out THAT FAR, with all their legal support and huge entourages and media they could easily bring, to hell with them. Primary the useless leeches.

Brad Lander, New York Citys comptroller and a mayoral candidate, was arrested by masked federal agents while visiting an immigration court and accompanying a person out of a courtroom.
In a statement to the Guardian, assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin from the Department of Homeland Security said Lander was arrested for assaulting law enforcement and impeding a federal officer.
Our heroic Ice law enforcement officers face a 413% increase in assaults against them it is wrong that politicians seeking higher office undermine law enforcement safety to get a viral moment, said McLaughlin. No one is above the law, and if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, you will face consequences.
On Tuesday, Lander appeared at 26 Federal Plaza to observe immigration hearings involving individuals marked for potential deportation.

(7,811 posts)The person ICE was attempting to arrest or to one of the ICE agents or both, that was a little more than just asking a question. If I had to guess Id say he gets indicted on an interference charge, could take a week or so for them to take that before a grand jury to indict him.
I doubt he gets convicted of course but what Hochul said about charges being dropped doesnt make any sense because SDNY issued a statement right after that and said they were now investigating and would determine if charges are filed or not.
