Photo Gallery of NO KINGS protest at Michigan State Capital in Lansing--- LOTS of great pics

published on our local paper's website, the Lansing State Journal...

I don't have convenient transportation, and have grown very shy of people, much less crowds, since COVID--
would have liked to have been there, but--- tonight just decided to search for pictures, to see what it looked like.
and found this wonderful link:

I once spoke from the steps of the Capital building myself, at the age of 18, in spring of 1981,
as part of a protest against feared American military intervention in El Salvador by the Reagan administration,
as someone who presumably could have been drafted, if the draft was brought back to fight in El Salvador.
(Draft registration had just been re-instated, and Reagan broke his promise to end it-- and their administration even prosecuted registration resistors.)
Seeing photos of the Capital steps brought back that memory...

Later that year, I took part in a March on the Pentagon to protest potential involvement in El Salvador, in May 1981... crowd estimates were 100,000.

I was much more directly involved in politics in my youth, was active in the Ingham County Democratic party in the 1980's, and ran for small offices twice... but lost.
I was a volunteer in the Kennedy '80 and Hart '84 campaigns, and supported several different Democrats for the '88 nomination, including Joe Biden before he was bullied out of that race... Actually was able to meet Sen. Kennedy in a small gathering in a room at the Lansing airport, after a planned public rally at the local Catholic high school was cancelled because of his support for Roe v. Wade.

Nowadays, I'm just a "keyboard commando" heh

To all who were able to publicly participate in the No Kings protest, I give you my thanks and appreciation!
