Goldsboro NC is a town of about 33k around an hour outside of Raleigh to the southeast. It is home to Seymore Johnson airforce base, thankfully not named after a Confederate military leader, that dates from the cold war. This is the second year of Pride and frankly it went better than I would have ever thought. We were the first live entertainment, singing a set of songs that included some Bob Marley classics, a Queen medley, Die With a Smile (a duet from Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga), Sing You Home, and Ripple. The chorus is also in its second year. The set was well received, honestly outdoor performances are by no means great for choruses, but we did well. Some alumni of the high school I teach at were in the audience as was a current student. After us was a series of drag queens and kings.
The booths were a variety of businesses, a LGBT Democratic booth, some food.
While I would have liked to attend a No King demonstration, it wasn't in the cards. The nearest one was in Greenville and was too early for me to attend both and I considered this to be important. Ever since I moved out here, I was determined to nurture groups like this so they will exist in eastern NC. I hope to see both the chorus and the pride to thrive. Both are largely moving in the right direction.

I have MAGA relatives that live there, others in Angiers, NC. Maybe they showed up to lend support.

(52,964 posts)I would have sung at that one had I not had the Goldsboro engagement with my other chorus. That said, we didn't have protestors. Last week there were protestors in Jacksonville.
