Were honored to announce a final count of 13.14 million in attendance across 2,300+ No Kings protests nationwide. It took a little longer to finalize due to the sheer scale, but the turnout was historic!
So far, 71 MAGA agitators have been arrested, with 62 additional investigations still underway. Were actively reviewing online threats and working on escalating where needed. If you see something, say something.
How was the count conducted? Over 140,000 coalition members attended events across the country, at least one at nearly every protest. Many traveled far and got to see some amazing small towns along the way. Local authorities provided crowd estimates, which were then reported back and compiled for the final count.
Regardless of the final count because honestly, the exact number is secondary, the crowds were massive, and everyone who showed up knows it. Even the smallest towns had a presence. The tides in America are turning, and you can see it clearly when you compare it to Trumps birthday parade.

Didn't people learn from the 2017 era of such accounts that they're just bullshitting and scamming people?

We walked at a snail's pace due to crowds. Fifteen plus blocks packed solid. Corporate media does not want to admit the truth. Or should I say corporate or legacy media is actively pumping propaganda with the low numbers reported, i.e. 4.5-7 million. We exceeded the 3.5% threshold, and that is why there was such an outpouring of joy and hope yesterday in the face of this adversity.

(86,670 posts)On every grassy curb area, around the extensive parking lot areas. Along every sidewalk, lining every driveway that wove through the area. From what I could see, it was single file lines of people. Of every age, some with baby strollers, quite a few elders in wheelchairs. A whole lot of everybody, and it was a challenge to locate where the lines started and/or ended. HUGELY encouraging!
And I didnt find a single person there who was in a bad mood. It was a VERY happy, lighthearted, and tremendously congenial crowd. Everybody looked like they were glad to be there, and many had friends and family members with them. Just SOOOOOOOOO SATISFYING!!!
My only takeaway: I wanna do this AGAIN! WHENS the next one? (Actually Ive already heard there IS a next one - in a couple of weeks, and us Indivisibles will be at that one, too!)

I know a lot of folks like this account. But this is a wild, and unhelpful, exaggeration--it's a resistance version of sean spicer. It veers into #resistanceporn and trades accuracy for clout, like other "blue maga" grifters on here. Pls consider finding other sources of inspiration/news/motivation
Post from "alt national park service" account reading "From coast to coast, city streets to small town squares, you showed up. And it mattered. Honored to announce: 12.1 million in attendance."
The 12.1 million figure is 300 percent more than every estimate produced by experts and scholars who carefully went through nationwide reports.

(3,055 posts)A NYC street with sidewalks is ~102' x 900'. This leads to 92,000 SF (square feet). Including the intersections I bump it up 10 % to say 100,000 SF per block x 17 blocks full (from 42nd to 26/25th) leads to 1,700,000 square feet. The maximum density of humans packed shoulder to shoulder is ~1/meter squared gives ~168,000 people. I calculate that because it was a march and the line continually refreshed there were actually ~.5 million protesters in NYC easy. That times the 5 largest cities - Boston, Phili, Chicago, LA and SF gives 2.5 million. With an additional 2295 protests, I do believe we exceeded the 3.5% threshold. That means the average of the other events was a little over 3,200. I want numbers.

(53,204 posts)I have been adding numbers since May 28th when it was announced and I started keeping track.
NYC had at least 1/2 million. Small towns with 800 residents had 400 marchers so that is a pretty good number to base comparisons on. Estimates were grossly underestimated. I've been bitching about it in the Activist Headquarters Forum for 3 weeks. Just look at my posts and you can see how frustrated I am with this BS from the MSM's greedy, corporate millionaire/ traitors.
San Diego had 80,000 protesters (I saw it today on the local news). Three days ago they said 10,000. My 1st grade students could add better.

(38,624 posts)But I talked with my son last night, and what he told me convinced me these numbers are genuine.
He was traveling in Oregon, and he said every rural Podunk town had an event. Dozens of small communities.
He said even wide spots on the road had off the reservation events.
He gave everyone a horn toot and thumbs up, and still had time to get home an attend the big one in Portland.

(56,490 posts)Today's count (by one group) is more useful because at least they have a methodology.
But it is not definitive. I think the No Kings and Indivisible numbers will be more reliable.

(6,809 posts)We are 1/2 way to the 3.5% magic number itll take to build the power we need, but it must be SUSTAINED. In other words, we are going to keep going, keep working, keep speaking in whatever form we are able to do.

(354 posts)Research suggests that a nonviolent movement needs to actively engage at least 3.5% of a population to successfully overthrow a dictator, according to a study by Erica Chenoweth and Maria Stephan. This "3.5% rule" indicates that a relatively small percentage of the population actively participating in a movement can be enough to create significant change.

(5,415 posts)The No Kings organizers themselves put the number at 5 million. Protest organizers don't usually low-ball estimates of crowds at their own protests. They may eventually increase their estimate, but until they do theirs is the number that should be trusted.
Here's the No Kings Press Release:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wr0b0dmnfBQ6js-QvZzHJFVChPgpCPad4lbvuHAxXx0/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.4h93ipge435
Philadelphia, PA -- Today, in more than 2,100 cities and towns across the country, millions of people joined together for the No Kings Day of Defiance the largest coordinated protests since President Trump returned to office. From block parties to marches, families, workers, immigrants, and neighbors showed up in the face of military deployments and political threats to affirm a shared truth: we dont answer to kings, and we will not be ruled by fear.
With hundreds of events still underway, todays No Kings actions have already drawn more than 5 million participantsnearly 2 million more than the Hands Off protests on April 5.
They brought joy, drums, banners, and faith. They came not to clashbut to claim what is ours: the right to gather, to speak, and to rise. And rise we didwith dignity, love, and powerful resolve. Turnout was overwhelmingly more than initially anticipated. Organizers and local law enforcement reported over 200,000 in New York, over 100,000 in Philadelphia, and in some towns like Pentwater, Michigan saw 400 people join in their small town with a population of 800.
In the face of the Trump administration and several Republican governors deploying the military to intimidate protestors, No Kings organizers clearly and publicly committed to peaceful action, and people across the country showed up anywaywith peace, purpose, and joy.
In response to this historic day of action, the No Kings Coalition issued the following statement:
Today, across red states and blue, rural towns and major cities, Americans stood in peaceful unity and made it clear: we dont do kings.
While Trump and MAGA-aligned governors wasted public dollars on riot gear and fear tactics, the people brought hope, humor, and harmony. A national act of joyful resistance.
This administration disappears people while cutting their careslashing healthcare, gutting education, and criminalizing immigrants instead of delivering dignity.
But today was a reminder: we are still here. Still organizing. Still rising. Still unafraid.
We dont do kings in this country. We do solidarity. We do community. We do justiceand we do it together.
The No Kings coalition is and remains a nonviolent movement. We are heartbroken by the shooting in Minnesota, where State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were tragically killed, and State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette remain in recovery. Our prayers are with their families, their communities, and all those grieving.
In response, and out of an abundance of caution, we canceled all remaining No Kings events in Minnesota early in the day, following the guidance of Governor Walz and law enforcement as the search continues for the suspect. We honor the leadership of those impacted by this act of political violence by doubling down on our commitment to peace, unity, and democratic freedom. We call on every communityacross race, faith, and differenceto reject hate of all forms and stand together against political violence.

(40,376 posts)I think it was really nice of trump to set up an event on the same day so it looked like a measure of who supported what.
He even schmaltzed his event up cuz his birthday and the Armys 250 year anniversary. Pull those emotional strings!
Then he fell asleep, further demonstrating how qualified he is for the office.
