KitKat the mascot of Randa's Market in San Francisco killed by a Waymo

On Monday, a beloved shop cat was allegedly struck and killed by a Waymo driving down 16th Street. Now, a small sidewalk memorial has cropped up in his honor, complete with bouquets and lit candles.

For six years, KitKat was the pet and mascot of Randa’s Market, a corner store on 16th Street between Valencia and Albion. The tabby cat often sat in a cardboard box near the store’s drink fridge, and he quickly became one of the Mission District’s favorite shop cats.

Jeff Klein told Mission Local that he saw a Waymo turn in front of his car while driving late on Monday night. “Some folks on the sidewalk started yelling and grabbed the cat right out from under where the Waymo swerved from,” he wrote in an email to the outlet.
