(78,297 posts)They tell you that your mammogram came back abnormal.
So they send you for other tests and you have sleepless nights over it.
Then the radiologist comes out and says all the second tests look good.
It was just some sort of shadow on the original.
It happened quite a bit when mammograms switched over to digital.
I am not sure the incident rate now.
Also keep in mind anything they catch early is usually a very good prognosis.
So you are doing the right thing to get regular mammograms.
I hope all the women reading your OP make sure they get their mammogram.

(12,529 posts)I've had a mammogram and a pelvic CT scan that showed possible lymph node issues. They watched me closely (every 3mo for a year) to see if the nodes continued to enlarge. When they didn't, they labeled them as 'reactive lymph nodes' and said the breast pain (which had gone away over time) was due to pressure on a nerve. Now when I have a mammogram, they always do the 'enhanced' imaging version.

(16,870 posts)First of all, you will be in my prayers. That is my practice.
Second, I've been through the callback process, etc., and it is nerve wracking. So don't beat yourself up for being scared. It's normal to be concerned. My own situation turned out to be a stable mass that was monitored for a period of time and determined to be unremarkable.
You already know that you were doing the sensible and RIGHT thing for yourself by going for the mammogram in the first place. So give yourself some grace for doing that. If there is something (and I pray there is not!), then you will have caught it early.
I will remember to pray for you early tomorrow morning.

(11,204 posts)Most abnormal mammograms usually tend to be nothing serious. I'm glad that you're getting checked out.
I'm also wondering if you have changed brands with laundry detergent, body soap, perfumes or deodorant. Anything that you would have an allergic painful reaction to both your neck and armpits.
I ask because I had a bad reaction to a new deodorant awhile back and it took about a month for it to be extremely painful in my armpit Although I didn't experience the pain in my neck.
I actually found a Reddit sub about the stinging armpit pain that I was experiencing. There were several complaints about the very same deodorant that I had switched to causing stinging armpit and in the same armpit.
The brand was Dove and I immediately stopped using it. I haven't experienced any pain since then.
My entire point is to rule out any allergic reactions to any new products that you might have switched to recently.
I wish you the best, Debbie.

(754 posts)I hope it will be benign. In May I had a questionable ultrasound. 6 weeks later I had major surgery. My ultrasound wasn't a false positive. 6 weeks after surgery I started a month of radiation. Mine wasn't breast cancer and it wasn't even slightly fun but now I'm all healed, cancer free, and slowly regaining my strength and energy. I'm only saying all that because IF (and I hope not! ) your test results aren't great, you can get through it and return to health. You might want to think about who you have in your life that can help you, or have some meals prepared and frozen, just in case.
Try not to worry, get help and support where you can, complain all you want and go have some fun. ❤

(713 posts)( I Googled: Painful lymph glands in neck and under arms )
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/swollen-lymph-nodes/symptoms-causes/syc-20353902
Overview
Swollen lymph nodes most often happen because of infection from bacteria or viruses. Rarely, cancer causes swollen lymph nodes.
The lymph nodes, also called lymph glands, play a vital role in the body being able to fight off infections. They work as filters, trapping viruses, bacteria and other causes of illnesses before they can infect other parts of the body. Common areas for swollen lymph nodes include the neck, under the chin, in the armpits and in the groin.
Sometimes, time and warm compresses may be all that's needed to treat swollen lymph nodes. Sometimes,>If an infection causes swollen lymph nodes, treatment depends on the infection.

I had a positive lymph node. I had a mammogram, biopsy and MRI all in one morning. It was hard, it was all consuming, but it can be done. When the biopsy was done, the radiologist smeared the slide and looked at me and said "this is cancer". It was what I needed to get going. I thank her whenever I see her.

But even if it goes the other way the surgery now is much different than the old days where you were left with a crater.
My wife had a lump that turned out to be a carcinoma. The reconstruction doc ask what result we wanted post removal. Would we like them larger for instance! Huh? ..What, you can do that. Sure can.
She had huge boobs before so she decided on a C cup and is thrilled w the result. Better than ever, no more sore back.
