Murkowski defends lawmakers over FBI probe into military video

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Alaska’s Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski is defending Democratic lawmakers now under FBI and Pentagon investigation for appearing in a social media video that urged U.S. troops to refuse illegal orders from their commanders.
“Senator Kelly valiantly served our country as an aviator in the U.S. Navy before later completing four space shuttle missions as a NASA astronaut,” Murkowski said in a statement. “To accuse him and other lawmakers of treason and sedition for rightfully pointing out that servicemembers can refuse illegal orders is reckless and flat-out wrong. The Department of Defense and FBI surely have more important priorities than this frivolous investigation.”
Murkowski’s criticism comes as both the FBI and Pentagon have launched separate probes into six Democratic lawmakers who appeared in the video, marking an extraordinary escalation for federal law enforcement and military institutions that traditionally avoid partisan political disputes.
Trump accuses lawmakers of sedition
The investigations were launched after President Donald Trump accused the lawmakers of sedition in a social media post, saying it is “punishable by DEATH.” The White House has not responded to requests for comment about the investigations or Murkowski’s criticism.
